Increased number of specialised single group tour packages
Travel agents are recognising the growing trend for solo travel adventures and are quick to cater for the market by offering sightseeing packages solely for single travellers.

Without a Net
Should the worse happen, be it an injury, a theft or any kind of grievance, you are out in a foreign country without any security blanket. And it is at times of crisis when familiarity brings comfort.

Meeting travel buddies
Travelling solo allows for promiscuity! Moving around, you will meet many other backpackers and, being on your own, allows you to pick and choose travel buddies. And then you can just flit off to other with no judgements! They curb the, sometimes, loneliness.
|
Single person budget
Getting ready to go off travelling obviously has its’ expenditures (the ticket if nothing else!). There are, though, the added extras of the travelling equipment and when only having a one-person budget, the cost is considerably higher. And all this before you even board the plane.

Learning life skills
Think you’ve lived on a budget before? Nothing compares to the budget you have to stick to when you’re travelling. Learning to economise is probably life’s greatest lesson.
Exploration of the world and mixing in all its cultures first hand offers a learning experience like no other. You will encounter people from all walks of life, witness differing lifestyles and understand others culture and beliefs. You may even learn a new language or even without one, learning invaluable and advanced social skills.

Loneliness
Travelling can be indescribable. You experience things that no words can express or photos can convey. And experiencing them alone can lessen the spectacle. Something funny happens and you have no one to share the laughter with. A night with no plans can allow the loneliness to crept in and after a while your own company can get a little testing.

Too many cooks…
When travelling in a pair or larger group, there is always going to be debates about where to go and how long to stay. Everyone will have their own agenda, places they can’t do without seeing. This can cause potential arguments and the need for negotiation. By travelling solo, you can pick your own itinerary, trekking without compromise, really making it the trip of a lifetime.
|
Added expenses
It is often the case that single rooms come with some kind of supplement. Sharing your accommodation is usually the cheaper option so going solo actually bumps up the cost.

Sense of Independence
There will be no one around to pick up after you. No one to catch you should you fall. This may sound like a con but the sense of achievement you will get from doing everything independently will be immeasurable. You’ll be a really grown up!
|
Increased threat to personal danger
This is probably the most obvious and the most important con to travelling alone. Regardless of gender, safety really does lie in numbers and being alone does make you an easier target. It may also limit where you go as many ‘real’ sites are off the beaten track.
