   Get politically active

What you won't do for yourself, you will do for your children. You might actually go out and vote for the first time in your life on an issue you didn't know you cared about before you had kids.
May have to put careers on hold

Either you or your partner may need to put career(s) on hold. It is possible to juggle two careers with the childcare option etc. but you may have a child that will require a stay home parent.

Someone to take care of you in your old age

In some cultures, children take care of their elderly parents. But don't expect it, especially if your children haven't seen you taking care of your elderly parents.
