Hybrid Cars

Email this topic | Download this topic

When oil hit $80 a barrel, I'm sure a lot of people got interested in hybrid cars. I know a few folks that bought a hybrid as a commuter car so they can use the HOV lanes. If you've never heard of HOV lanes, then consider yourself lucky. I'm not sure if the hybrid cars are economically viable for the manufacturers yet but with the prices coming down as they sell more and more, I'm sure the hybrid cars are here to stay. So for your next car purchase, will you be considering a hybrid car? Here are the pros and cons.

CONs
   Replace "Smog" with "Smug"

Owning a hybrid allows you to feel morally superior to H2 drivers who are only furthering the destruction of the earth and prolonging the war in Iraq.

Hybrids don't help the environment. Even though they are very fuel efficient doesn't mean they aren't polluting the Earth still. Plus not everybody wants to buy a hybrid such as the Toyota Prius because its so ugly. I would totally want a Ferrari and buy gas all the time then have a piece of junk hybrid.

   Long term reliability unknown

Since hybrid technology for cars is rather new, there is no long term reliability data.
